PTI Cymru’s data team create and maintain bus service information for the whole of Wales. This data is supplied to Traveline Cymru and other bus service information systems.

Our dedicated data team source, generate and continually update Wales-wide bus service information that is stored as TransXchange (TXC) files. These files are XML data and contain the relevant information to create timetables, route maps, bus stop locations and related data, as done for Traveline Cymru. These data files can be used to underpin other bus service information systems without the need to re-create the data in other formats.

All members of the data team are trained in the use of the Omni software for building timetables, the mapping each route, creation of fare data and maintenance of NaPTAN and localities. The team regularly speak to operators and local authorities to make sure that the data is of the highest quality possible.

Current examples of where our data is used are:

  • Bus stop departure screens
  • Real Time Information systems
  • The Traveline National Dataset
  • Various app developments
  • Kiosk and web services applications
  • Data analysis tools
  • Bespoke systems e.g. MyUniJourney
  • Supplied to local authorities for import into their own tools

These are open source data files operated under the .gov open data agreement and can be supplied to third party developers for use in bespoke systems.

We plan to expand the services we offer in the future and are currently working on systems to allow us to increase what we can offer to other interested parties. We are happy to work with developers who wish to access bus information on behalf of our stakeholders and to assist on known or emerging technologies and services. You can contact us here to find out more about accessing this information.
